Resident Evil 4, the upcoming survival horror game developed and published by Capcom, is set to be released on March 24, 2023 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S. The game serves as a remake of the 2005 game of the same name and follows the story of U.S. agent Leon S. Kennedy as he embarks on a mission to rescue Ashley Graham, daughter of the President of the United States, from a Spanish village dominated by the violent cult Los Illuminados.

Resident Evil 4 Storyline

Six years have passed since the catastrophic biological outbreak in Raccoon City, and Leon S. Kennedy, a former survivor, has taken on a new role as a special agent reporting directly to the President of the United States.

He is tasked with a daring mission to rescue the President’s daughter from the hands of evil. Leon sets his sights on a remote village in Europe, surrounded by a mysterious forest, which is rumored to be inhabited by a creepy cult.

Relying on his combat experience and armed to the teeth with weapons, Leon must use his wit and tactical skills to survive the horrors that await him in the village. Leon must deploy all in his arsenal including firearms, hand-to-hand combat, and a knife to defeat the enemy.

Speaking of the knife, it can now be used to parry attacks as well as finish off enemies, but players must be cautious as every action will reduce its durability.

Apart from hand-to-hand combat, Leon can also engage in ranged combat which allows him to aim and shoot from a third-person perspective. Players must conserve ammo by carefully choosing their targets and aiming well. Shooting at enemies’ heads and legs can make them falter and open them up for a melee attack.

As Leon navigates the horrors of the European village, he must use all of his skills and resources to stay alive and complete his mission. With the truth behind the village’s dark secrets waiting to be uncovered, players will be on the edge of their seats as they embark on a harrowing journey of bravery and terror.

Resident Evil 4 Gameplay Features

The game features a third-person view camera perspective, with updated graphics that enhance the feeling of isolation and haunting environments. The controls have been refined to provide a more immersive experience and emphasize the intense gameplay that balances on a knife’s edge.

The game features “over-the-shoulder” third-person shooter gameplay, drawing inspiration from the remakes of Resident Evil 2 (2019) and Resident Evil 3 (2020). It will also be the first game in the Resident Evil series to offer six optional control schemes, including one based on the original game.

Players can manage their inventory with an “attache case” and can buy, upgrade, and trade items with the Merchant. In combat, Leon can perform roundhouse kicks to push enemies away and has new parry mechanics, such as; blocking attacks from a chainsaw with a knife. The game also features side quests that can be completed during the main story.

The development of Resident Evil 4 began around 2018 and was led by the studio M-Two before being brought in-house by Capcom in early 2021. The game’s director, Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, has stated that the remake will have the same length as the original game, and the development team aimed to expand the characters of Ashley and Luis, and to reduce the number of quick time events. Resident Evil 4 is developed using the RE Engine and features realistic character facial features, including Eduard Badaluta’s likeness for Leon.

The game is available for pre-order, with bonus items including Leon’s briefcase and handgun ammo charms.

New Screenshots for Resident Evil 4

CAPCOM has shared new screenshots for the highly anticipated Resident Evil 4 remake. The images, which were shared via the Resident Evil Portal Official Twitter account, showcases the recreation of the game’s iconic Castle location. The images are breathtaking and demonstrate the level of care and attention that CAPCOM is putting into the remake of one of the most popular entries in the survival-horror series.

As previously confirmed, the Island section of the game will be returning in the upcoming remake, according to Director Yoshiaki Hirabayashi.

The development team was split into three groups, each focusing on specific sections of the game. Hirabayashi noted that the team approached the remake in a granular manner, focusing on polishing individual elements that made up the original gameplay experience, rather than addressing technological limitations from the original game.

PC gamers can pre-order now on Steam for $59.99 or $69.99 for the Standard or Deluxe Edition respectively and experience the terror of Resident Evil 4 in a whole new way, with improved graphics, gameplay, and a more intense atmosphere.

With the March 24, 2023 release date of Resident Evil 4 still on course, you shouldn’t miss out on the chance to dive back into Leon’s mission to save Ashley and uncover the mysteries of Los Illuminados.
