RECAP Of CES 2023 And How The Trade Show Could Benefit The Gaming Industry
Every company that showed off their product, from the Ring app’s cutting-edge camera to Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon Ride Flex to HP and Dell’s hybrid laptops, brought their A-game.

The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) organized Consumer Electronic Show (CES) of 2023 held in the U.S state of Nevada at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Winchester may have come and gone, but memories of this year’s event held on January 5 will live on on the minds of participants at least until the next scheduled event in eleven months time.
CES 2023 focused on increasing connectivity and making the digital world more accessible for consumers and end users. Many companies that actively took part in the trade show event showcased new products, partnerships and innovations that aim to make it easier for people to stay connected whether they are working, at home or on-the-go.
The emphasis is on devices that make hybrid work more convenient, such as; laptops and desktops from Dell, Lenovo, and HP.
Durability, Speed, Power, Convenience: Hybrid Work made Easy
At this year’s CES, several major companies have released new laptops and desktops that are designed to support hybrid work.
The Dell XPS 13 Plus Laptop is built with the 12th Generation Intel Core 28W processor, making it an ultra-fast device that is convenient to use without compromising on power. The laptop is designed to support the needs of professionals who work from home.
Lenovo also released the ThinkPad Z13, which is built with the AMD Ryzen Pro U-Series processors with AMD Radeon graphics. This is one of the first laptops to be built with these technologies, which means it’s expected to have great performance and capabilities.
HP also released the Dragonfly Pro Chromebook, which is a 14-inch device with an 8 MP camera and an ultra-bright touchscreen that allows content to be visible even with the constraint of direct Sunlight.
It also features Intel Evo for quick performance and connectivity, including the seamless pairing between mobile phones and the laptop device. The Dragonfly Pro Chromebook also has the first ever one-touch connection to HP’s round-the-clock concierge service.
In addition to the Dragonfly Chromebook, HP also debuted a set of high-end wireless earbuds aimed at professionals, the Poly Voyager Free 60 Series. The WindSmart technology and active noise cancellation of these earbuds allow for a five-hour talk time while also blocking ambient noise. Every model comes with a charging case that can extend its use time by 10 hours.
Home Security Devices Take Center attraction At CES 2023
At CES 2023, there were several in-home technologies on display, including the Ring Car Cam and Peephole Cam to enhance security and safety.
The new Ring Car Cam is a dual-facing camera that records when the car is moving and when it’s parked.
It has sensors that can detect what’s happening both inside and outside the vehicle. The camera will begin recording and sending real-time notifications to the Ring app if an intrusion is detected. You can also initiate recording by simply saying “Alexa, record”. This new feature from Ring is a convenient way to keep your car safe and secure.
Similarly, Ring’s new Peephole Cam is an innovative technology that offers the same smart doorbells people already use, but installed over the existing peephole in one’s door.Â
The camera has a resolution of 1080p, can see in the dark, can detect knocks and motion, and can even communicate with you in two ways. This new Peephole Cam does not require any long-term modifications to one’s door, making it a super easy option for those who rent.
This new feature from Ring aims to make life easier and safer for consumers, by providing them with a reliable and secure way to monitor their homes.
Auto Still a Force at the CES Trade show Event
At CES, chipmakers and automakers are continuing to focus on expanding vehicle connectivity by developing advanced drive-assist systems and digital cockpit operations.
Qualcomm showcased their new Snapdragon Ride Flex, which is a powerful computer solution for cars, and demonstrated cloud-based upgrades that allow for features like remote vehicle monitoring, voice assistance, and full level 3 autonomy.
Luminar, a lidar sensor company, announced that their technology will be standard on all Volvo cars and demonstrated how it improves safety and allows for greater autonomous driving abilities. They also demonstrated a new technology called Proactive Safety, which can detect small objects on the road and take actions to avoid collisions. The goal of these advancements is to improve the overall driving experience and make vehicles safer and more autonomous.
Virtual Experience At CES 2023
Dell’s Concept Nyx initiative is a research project that explores the intersection of physical, digital, and virtual experiences. The goal is to enhance the way we interact with technology in our everyday lives. In this year’s CES, Dell introduced the Concept Nyx Companion, a device that aims to make VR and XR more accessible by removing the need for headsets or goggles.
The Concept Nyx Companion is a lightweight device that can be used in both VR and XR environments, allowing users to interact with the virtual world in a more natural and intuitive way.
This device is a promising example of how technology companies are working to make our lives better, safer, and more connected. The technology behind this device could have a wide range of applications, such as in education, entertainment, remote work, and of course video gaming.
CES 2023 and Its Impact On The Video Gaming Industry
What happens at CES is a litmus test for the direction of the video gaming industry for the coming year, as it serves as a testing ground for ground-breaking technologies and game-changing innovations that could be adapted to video game development. For example, the Concept Nyx Companion could revolutionize the way VR and XR is used in the development of video games with gamers being able to interact naturally and intuitively with open world gaming environments.
Also, the Poly Voyager Free 60 Series earbuds are a welcome addition not just to professionals, but gamers as well. With the active noise cancellation technology, long talk time capabilities and 10 hour extended use (without charging), these earbuds could be real video gaming companions for the avid gamer.
On a parting note, the CES 2023 should not be viewed simply as the meeting place for who’s who in the automotive, computer hardware, and Hine security industry, but a veritable ground where new technology could be harnessed for existing and emerging markets including the console, and PC gaming industry.
