Hopefully, Season 3 of Overwatch 2 will fix the game’s many problems, including a severe lack of reward options
The reward system in Overwatch 2 has received criticism from players for its costly skins, which make it challenging for players to obtain new content and event rewards without spending a lot of money. In response to these concerns, Jared Neuss, the executive producer for Overwatch 2 announced on a Twitter message that changes to the reward system will be implemented in Season 3.
We have some updates coming in S3 that we’ll be talking about soon to help address the lack of choice in rewards.— Jared Neuss (@OhReallyJared) January 13, 2023
I’ll keep it vague for now. 😁
Overwatch 2 Plagued by Limitations in Skin and Coins
Previously, Overwatch 1 offered players a loot box for every new level achieved or challenge completed, providing players with the chance to earn legendary skins, highlight intros, and other collectibles for free. In contrast, Overwatch 2 operates differently, requiring players to buy skins and other additional content using in-game currency, Overwatch coins, which are primarily obtained with real-world money (Coins are sold at a base rate of 100 Coins to $1.).
The current system requires players to complete weekly challenges for an extended period of 8 months to purchase a single skin, The maximum amount of Overwatch Coins that can be earned through weekly challenges is limited to 60 per week, an arrangement that has been deemed unreasonable by many players.
Blizzard Explore Options for Expansive Overwatch 2 Reward System
To enhance the reward system and address the lack of choice in rewards, Blizzard is exploring options to offer players a wider range of rewards or the option to choose a hero for which to receive rewards. Although Neuss’s statement was not specific, it is suggested that the updates for Season 3 will definitely be of benefit to players.
In conclusion, the changes to the reward system in Overwatch 2: Season 3 are expected to provide players with more free rewards and options for obtaining skins, making the game more enjoyable to play. A well-designed gaming setup can also enhance the overall gaming experience, which is all that gamers truly ask for.
