I know how you feel, sometimes playing a multiplayer game can be annoying, especially if your mate isn’t available. So rather than waiting for your gaming buddies, why not settle for a single player game instead?!

With so many single-player games on multiple consoles, it is really up to you to decide on which games to stick with – or is it?! Not to worry, we have made things a whole less burdensome for you with our list of 5 single-player games to look forward to in 2023.

Starfield by Bethesda Game Studios

Our countdown starts with “Starfield” an upcoming action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks.

The game was formally announced during Bethesda’s E3 Press Conference in 2018, but is now scheduled for release in the first half of 2023 for Microsoft Windows and Xbox Series X/S.

Starfield is set in a space-themed fantasy world called “The Settlement Systems”, and will be the first new intellectual property developed and released by Bethesda for the better part of over twenty-five years.

The game plot is mainly centered around the long fought Colony War of 2310 between the two largest factions at the time, namely; the United Colonies and Freestar Collective. It appears as if a momentary truce has been called in the conflict between these two warring factions, as the game is set roughly two decades after the Colony War.

You assume the role of a highly customizable character who is also a key member of Constellation, an organization of deep space explorers. Starfield can be played by gamers in any of two basic perspectives, namely; as a first or third-person shooter action-role playing game.

So Xbox Series X/S and Microsoft Windows gamers can look forward to playing Starfield built with Creation Engine 2, a 3D video game engine that was designed, developed and released in 2011 by Bethesda Game Studio.

This game engine has been used in the development of other notable video games, such as; Fallout 76, Fallout 4, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Redfall by Arkane Studios Austin

Coming in at number four of the top 5 single-player games to look out for in 2023 is “Redfall”. This is an upcoming open world first-person shooter video game developed by Arkane Studios Austin and published by Bethesda Softworks.

Redfall features both single-player and a very useful cooperative multiplayer mode, so you can still find time to play the game with friends.

You can choose among four playable characters — each with unique backgrounds, storylines, plots, and special abilities — to fight against vampires as well as hostile human enemies within the game.

If you like a bit of blood-cuddling horror with an intense combat mode you might want to wait a little longer for the release of this game which is billed for May 2, 2023 on Microsoft Windows and Xbox Series X/S. The Redfall Standard and Bite Back Editions are available for pre-order for $69.99 and $99.99 for Xbox Series X/S.

Redfall was built with Unreal Engine 5 which supports every known console including ninth generation consoles like Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor by Respawn Entertainment

“Star Wars Jedi: Survivor” uses “the force” to land at number three of our list. This upcoming action-adventure game developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts is a sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order released in 2019.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor maintains many of the gameplay elements from its predecessor with many new gameplay elements included in this title. According to Stig Asmussen, the video game director, Cal Kestis would be able to deploy about five “fully realized” stances during combat scenes where he needs to use his trusty lightsaber.

The single and double bladed lightsaber stances which were very popular amongst gamers of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order makes a return in Survivor while the special dual-wield single blade attack also from the Fallen Order gameplay is expanded into its own fully playable lightsaber stance in Survivor.

A freshly developed Kylo Ren-type crossguard lightsaber has also been included in Survivor. This lightsaber is indeed heavier in size and would certainly require gamers to wield it with a bit more confidence than their regular lightsaber because parrying laser attacks from the enemy and even blocking take a much longer timing window to effect.

In Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, you have a brand new stasis  feature. Your character’s Force stasis special ability is similar to that of Kylo Ren during gameplay in The Force Awakens.

With this Force stasis special ability, you will be able to freeze both blaster bolts and advancing enemies in mid-air, giving you just enough time to either evade or attack.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is definitely worth trying out and is scheduled for release on March 17, 2023 on PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S. You can pre-order your copy of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Standard Edition and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Deluxe Edition for $69.99 and $89.99 respectively today.

Forspoken by Luminous Productions

The second video game making its way on our 5 single-player games to look forward to in 2023 is “Forspoken”.

Forspoken was released on January 24, 2023 to reveal reviews. This action-role-playing game is the brainchild of Luminous Productions and was published on schedule by Square Enix the parent company.

The protagonist, Frey Holland voiced by Ella Balinska is a young woman who is transported from New York City to the visually stunning fantasy world of Athia.

She uses her magical powers to journey through this fantasy world and switches on to survival mode as she tries to stay alive while searching for her way back home to her beloved city of dreams. But Athia is a world facing untold hardships, as it is ruled with an ironfist by the Tantas. These tyrannical rulers include Tanta Sila voiced by Janina Gavankar and Tanta Prave played by Pollyanna McIntosh.

Other characters in this video game include Frey’s sentient bracelet Cuff played by Jonathan Cake, the archivist Johedy voiced by Keala Settle, and Auden played by Monica Barbaro.

The gameplay of Forspokens is based mainly on terrain traversal adventure requiring fluidity and speed as you navigate your way through the narrative-driven plots and subplots. Forspoken was released for PlayStation 5 and Windows platforms. You can get the Standard edition for $69.99 while the Digital Deluxe Edition goes for $94.99 today.
